Wedding Colors: What is the Trend? Traditions and What's New

Dear Brides, Grooms and anyone wanting to know what's happening in the wedding industry today.

Weddings have traditionally been two to three colors then everything a Bride and Groom chose for the wedding was in those colors.  Today's Bride and Groom is not limited to those choices.

The choices for today tend to be color palettes, hues of colors, complementary colors or just the couples favorite colors.  Most choices give more options for the decor and make bold beautiful statements.

Personally, I love the color hues and complementary color spectrum like Charcoal, Black, Raspberry and Blush and White.  I believe this will be one of the next hottest color trends.

Another hot color trend is to add a metal like bronze, silver or gold into the mix.  These colors tend to be the accent colors vs. the main color but with little to no rules each couple can decide what they like best.

Really when you think about it these trends incorporating
more colors make sense, after all there always were more than

two colors at any wedding or party now couples are just acknowledging all there choices.

So remember the new trend is to select three to five colors with or without a metal.

When to have a Small Courhouse Wedding vs. Traditional Wedding

Dear Brides and Grooms to Be,

This topic came up recently when I was asked to price out bouquets for a bride, for her bridesmaids that would look good in pictures but be so inexpensive that a bridesmaid would pay for her own flowers.

I'm thinking wow does this Bride really understand what she is doing to her friends?  She is taking away the "thanks for being my bridesmaid" and adding it to the burden of being a bridesmaid.

Which traditionally is the following:

Dress
Shoes
Undergarments
Hair
Nails
Travel
Accommodations
Food
Present for the Bride and Groom
Shower/Bachelorette Present

These items are running bridesmaids an average of $600 per wedding.

So I'm thinking this person should really rethink having a traditional wedding and opt for a less expensive alternative like a wedding at the court house.  After all when everything is said and done your still married and you have not gotten yourself in debt and chances are you still have your friends.

Fall 2014 Colors and News what's hot with Weddings

What's hot with Weddings?  This season's color is not your usual fall color it's Blush pink.  This has literally stolen the fall 2014 show and it has flower growers scrambling for more blush colored flowers to make those beautiful creations and arrangements.  Likely if you are in a pinch use light pink for that blushish color.  Remember this season any thing goes but Blush is the color of choice!

Happy Planning!

Why Flowers Make a Wedding So Special!

Wedding Flowers are a timeless tradition for every Bride. They add to the ambiance, beauty and smell wonderful. For ages women have enjoyed carrying beautiful flowers on the most important day of their lives, their Wedding Day.

Flowers all have special meanings, they transcend cultures and are timeless reminders of joy and happiness. The smell and the beauty of the flowers can be enjoyed all day, the beauty of the flowers enhance pictures and are remembered for a lifetime.

It is a long honored tradition to recognize family and special friends with flowers as well as the entire wedding party. It identifies that they are special to the Bride and Groom. Flowers are a wonderful reminder of the wedding and are often preserved or dried as a memento.

Not having flowers at a Wedding is the equivalent of not wearing a special dress, doing your hair or smelling good on that most special of days.

What if you are allergic or just don't like flowers?  You can use flowers you are not allergic too, grains, herbs or alternatives like silk, paper, fabric, or jewelry to create the beautiful accents for your special day.

Flowers are an investment so make sure and talk with your florist about how to make the most of your budget for flowers and decor to make your wedding the amazing day of your dreams.

How to Hire the Best DJ

Dear Reader,

As a wedding florist and attend many weddings, including those of my clients and family members.  Arizonans tend to use DJ's more than live bands so most every Wedding I have been to used a DJ or provided their own music.

Please keep the following in mind when you consider a DJ.

A good DJ does a lot more than play music.  He or she is generally the MC, entertainment, director, announcer, spokesperson, dance instructor and sometimes the referee or judge.  Who you pick makes a big difference on how the party will play out or be remembered. I was so impressed with Chad with All American DJ, the DJ for my cousin's Wedding. He was fantastic, made the evening fun and honestly I was tired but ended up staying and dancing long after I planned on leaving.

That can be the real danger you pay thousands of dollars for the venue, food, flowers, photographer, etc. and people get board and want to leave.  That is why the DJ you hire is so important because they can take the temperature of the group and entertain while the Bride and Groom are doing things that they need to do like taking pictures and signing the license.

Our DJ Chad even made waiting to go to the buffet line fun.  He held a Trivia contest Q&A about the Bride and Groom, the winning tables got to go up to the buffet line for dinner. While waiting in line we were able to listen to other tables try and win their place.

He was also very good at gauging the type of music the group would like.  This is so very important, nothing will make people run out of an event faster that playing music that they hate or playing it to loud. He also played music that was a tribute to the Brides Greek heritage. That was amazing because everyone joined in and learned how to dance in the Greek family tradition.

So here are some tips to keep in mind when looking for the perfect fun DJ:

* Ask what he or she provides for the evening and see if he or she talks about entertaining the group while your busy and hosting games to make things fun. They should have a fun evening planned be able to talk them event by event.

* Ask what types of music he or she plays for the dancing. Make sure he or she has a full selection of music and not just one genre. Also make sure there are special music played for transitions and back ground play while various special events are going on.

* Find out how loud he or she plays the music and remember the loudness can chase away anyone who has any hearing loss or is older any hearing issue.

* Ask how he or she gets people up dancing.  Does he or she use a competition, ask for support for the bride and groom, or fun music that people like to dance to?

* Ask him or her how they will work the crowd or will they just stand behind the music stand. Will they teach people how to do different dances if need be?

* Ask how they prevent distortion and feedback from the equipment. Find out how much before the Wedding they set up and if they do sound checks.

* Provide your expectations to the DJ(s) and make sure they have it written down or you provide them with specific details on what you expect and want from them.  Your paying for it so you can even state your preferences for each event in the ceremony and reception, etc.

* Finally do they have any fun props that they provide to add to the enjoyment of the evening.

Happy Planning and Enjoy.

Wedding Traditions and Options - Deciding What's Important

Dear Reader,

These days when planning a wedding it can be overwhelming to make all the decisions necessary in planning a big event.  Throw in the biggest day of your life, managing relatives, trying to make a good impression on new relatives, clients, friends, etc. being in the spotlight, managing vendors and changing everything in your life with a new one it is no doubt a huge undertaking!  Ad in all the little things that people throw in that you have to do. For example you might hear this...

Are you tossing the bouquet?  Throwing a garder? Giving away a thank you memento? Wearing blue? Eating dinner? It literally goes on and on.

So what to do...

Unless you are someone who greatly enjoys the whole tradition of getting married in America and have an unlimited budget it is a good idea to sit down and talk with your fiance and anyone helping plan and pay for the wedding and list what is important.

Start first with the bigger items and ask yourselves (If this did not happen at my wedding would I miss it?)  For example eating a meal, it is nice but would you enjoy the day any less if you did not?
Of course price has a lot to do with it but also time, planning and management of the whole process.
To some a honeymoon right away is the most important part of the whole wedding, their focus should be on the honeymoon an a simple wedding.

What really bogs you down will be all the little things that people will ask if your doing; throwing a bouquet, having a receiving line, giving a gift to your guests to your attendants, it goes on and on. So if you are not comfortable tossing a guarder and bouquet my suggestion is don't do it.

While you are sitting down write down what's important to you and then make a plan for your day of what you want to have happen and don't leave it to chance.  If you have no idea of what goes on with a wedding day most bookstores or the Internet have wedding planners to help guide you.  Rank the items one to ten with importance. Then write the most important ones into your big day.

Let me know if this helps!

Best,

Least Expensive Wedding Flowers

Dear Reader,

Congratulations on your up coming event, wedding or just wanting to learn more about flower pricing.

Deciding on flowers can be an overwhelming decision when it's not your specialty and since it's a major topic of conversation with my brides I thought you might be interested to know some best bets for flowers when it comes to saving money.

Since I live in the Phoenix Valley where it can be a 110 degrees in June our flower growing season is February through April as a rule and as early as November needless to say choosing flowers is very important because they must last, be the right color and the right price.

And the winner is...

For variety, durability, longevity and of course price is... the Chrysanthemum. It comes in many colors from white to pink, purple all the way to brown and about every color in between.  There are also numerous kinds of varieties and blooms. Some come in singular stems and sold in numbered bunches while others have multiple blooms per stem and are sold by weight.

Next is the Carnation which I love because it comes in so many different colors and sizes although there are some that think it is an old fashion flower.  I disagree I think it is wonderful, durable and timeless.

The next group of flowers is the regular rose category and pricing is not bad but not quite as good as the mum category.

After that there are specialty flowers like Tulips, then finally the Garden Rose, Peony, Lily and Orchid category which tends to be the most expensive.

So if you are looking for the best value start with the Mums. They look great and are priced right!

Best Wishes on your big day or event!

Beautiful Wedding Flowers at the Best Price

Congratulations,

You have picked a great article to read to find ways to save money on flowers for your Wedding or event.

Warning: It helps to read this before you go to your local florist!

Unless you grow your own flowers I'm sure you will agree that the right flowers can be either hard to find or expensive to buy.  Cheap flowers can be risky and may not last and no one wants dead flowers on their wedding day.

So what do you do?

* Plan a budget.

This is for decorations and make sure to set a good amount aside for flowers. I'm not talking about a million dollars but some budgets recommend between 8 and 10%.  Honestly this may not be enough in the ultra low budget and a lot of money in the more elaborate Wedding. Either way most everyone does not have an endless budget and want the most for their money.

* Decide what color of flowers you would like.

* Be open to suggestions and ways to save money.

Your Florist, Wedding Planner, Coordinator, Event Contact etc., all have knowledge on what looks good and can save you money.  It just takes being open to ideas.

* Look online or at books to see what kind of look or style you like.

* Be open to flowers you never thought of using in your arrangement.

* Remember the cost of flowers changes and there is seasonality to most flowers.

* Be unique you don't have to use the flowers that everyone else does.  This can be a huge savings depending on the flower.  Creativity can be a wonderful thing.

* One flower can be just as beautiful as a bunch.  An example can be one Red Rose or one dinner plate Dalia.

One key element in being successful in planning your Wedding is to enjoy the experience!

Thank you for reading my blog and come back soon for more interesting reading!

Wedding Venues: Read this before you sign!

Dear Reader,

Congratulations on your upcoming event!  I have been a florist for over 25 years and provided flowers, decorations, coordination, etc. (you get it) to many brides, friends and family.

So I wanted to give you the 411 on Venues.

Whether it's your local member's club or million dollar resort find out how long they have been around and how many bookings they have for currently for the year.  With the down turn in the economy some venues are in bad shape and either shutting down before the event or cutting corners!

Read on to learn more...

I live in a major city so their are many options for any occasion.  Although the economy where I live is not as bad as others I have heard of two venues that have closed their doors and a few others who have almost closed.  Keep in mind that these closures both left customers without a venue and a deposit.

What can I do you might ask, my answer is this:

* Learn how many bookings they have for the following year to see if they are bring in business and able to stay open until your event.

* Find out how long they have been in business.  A venue that I am a preferred vendor at Desert Foothills, in Scottsdale AZ has been in business for over 15 years and has as many as 4 to 6 events weekly at the venue.  This is a strong position to be in for a venue and Brides can be confident that the Venue will be there for their Wedding.

* Next look around at the venue to see what shape the  venue is in look especially at the items used for the celebration like the tables, chairs, arches, Chuppahs, fountains etc. If you see items that are dangerous, very run down or broken ask about what their maintenance plan is for those items, If there is no answer or they say it is what it is, be careful, (If they say it is scheduled to be replaced ask when and make sure it is before your wedding).  These can be warning signs that the venue may not be in good shape.  A tip is to view what items will be used at your event then have them list those items in the contract so you know you should get what you expected.

On the day of your Wedding check out the venue and make sure everything is as it should be.  If something is not up to standard see what alternates are available. Make sure if something is dangerous or broken that it is not used and put away from where your guests are going to be.

Finally have a good time! Celebrate the day and don't worry if some things don't go exactly as planned, it will all work out.

Best Wishes!

Wedding Colors: What's New, What's Popular with Real Brides and How to Choose your colors!

As you prepare for your 2014 Wedding or beyond, you may be asking yourself and your Groom to be what colors you want to have for your Wedding.

It will seem to be one of the most popular questions you will be asked in deciding options for your Wedding.  I will cover how to decide later in this post but for now I want to cover what is being predicted to be hot this coming year.

According to the major sites the following will be popular:

Coral
Dark Yellow
Minty Green
Bright and Muted Light Blue and Aqua
Periwinkle Purples and a Purple Violet
Sandy Brown and Coffee Browns
Bright Orange
Grey

What seems to be popular with my Brides has been the following:

Bright and Lemon Yellow
Bright Orange and Coral
Cherry Red, White and Black
Citrus Colors
Aqua and Pink
Black and Hot Pink
Royal Blue, White and Black
Grey and Silver have also been extremely popular shares to compliment many of these colors!

Now what's popular with my Brides planning their weddings:

Three or more colors seems to be what most brides are selecting and here are some of the examples:

Nude, Cream and Champagne
Black, Silver and Red
Orange, Grey and Black/Aqua
Various shades of Pink and Mint
Navy, Royal and Aqua Blue

Now how to chose:

One of my Brides chose her favorite, the groom's and their daughter's which came out wonderfully fun and meant so much to all of them in celebrating the union of their family!

Another Bride decided on colors to represent the groom and herself (white), the children (red) and the grandchildren (yellow). Others clearly pick colors that are there favorite or look good on people.

My suggestion to you is to not worry about what is popular or will make anyone else happy just pick what you like.  Don't be afraid to have two or more colors there are really no rules!

Have fun and best wishes,
